It is our mission statement that : “Rooted in God our Creator, the gospel of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit, St. Walter Music Ministry exists to inspire an outward expression of the assembly’s faith, emotions, and prayer through music.”
By creating an environment in which all are welcome, the music ministry strives to foster small faith communities to make it comfortable for the assembly to express their prayer through song.
Parish Choir
The Parish Choir is a wonderfully warm group of talented and generous people high school age and up. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 9:00 P.M. in church and lead the music at 9:00 A.M. Mass on Sundays (fall through spring). All vocalists and instrumentalists are welcome and there is no audition necessary for vocalists.
Children’s Choir
The children’s choir meets on Tuesday afternoons from 3:15 – 4:00 P.M. in the church. Children from St. Walter School and Children’s Faith Formation (3rd through 8th Grade) are welcome. We sing throughout the school year once or twice a month at the 5:00 Mass on Saturdays.
Teen Choir
The Teen Choir is open to all high school students in the parish and is a great way for teens to be involved at St. Walter’s. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome. We sing at two Masses each month from September to June. We rehearse prior to Mass.
Cantors
Cantors are a special ministry called upon to lead our assembly in prayer through singing the psalms and special verses in our music. Cantors are used with all ensembles and choirs. Anyone with a solid prayer life and strong vocal skills is welcome to audition to be part of our cantor training workshop. (Time and commitment are flexible.)
Instrumentalists
Organists, pianists, guitarists, bass guitarists, percussionists, woodwind, brass and string players all add to our music ministry program. If you can play any of these or other instruments, please consider sharing your talent with St. Walter Parish.
