Boys and girls grades 6-8 to assist the priests in the celebration of the Eucharists and all special
liturgies such as weddings, funerals, and Holy Week services.
Use their artistic talent behind the scenes to help create a prayerful worship place. Plans the beautification of the church through the use of candles, banners and flowers according to the liturgical season. All participate in the decorating of the church for each of the liturgical seasons.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word This is a ministry where God’s Word is opened for the little children from pre-school through second grade. During the Sunday Liturgy these children leave the church proper during the readings, gospel and homily and that Sunday’s readings are presented to them on their level. Helping them understand God’s word make Jesus' words, “Let the children come to me.” very relevant for our times.

Trained in the parish and mandated by the Diocese of Joliet to assist in the distribution of the Precious Body and Blood of Christ at all liturgies. These ministers graciously welcome the assembly to full Communion with our Lord and one another. The term of a Minister of Communion is 3 years and is renewable. At all Sunday and special liturgies these minister are present to extend welcome and hospitality as people enter and leave church. Before Mass they distribute Missals and Music books and collect and store the same after Mass. Orientation and Training Meetings are required for this ministry. Serve refreshments after Sunday and special liturgies to the parish community. A friendly smile and a caring attitude are helpful for this service ministry. Orientation and Training Meetings are required for this ministry.
Assist in seasonal and Sunday preparation of liturgies after careful reflection on the scripture and prayers for each season. The ministers seek to blend the environment, movement, music and the word in a structured manner to draw the congregation into the liturgical season being celebrated. The term is for two years and is renewable. The planners meet as required based upon needs of the liturgical season.
Music Ministry welcomes you! It is our mission statement that: “Rooted in God our Creator, the gospel of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit, St. Walter Music Ministry exists to inspire an outward expression of the assembly’s faith, emotions, and prayer
through music. Parish Choir i s a wonderfully warm group of talented and generous people high school age and up. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. in church, and lead the music at 9:00 a.m. mass on Sunday (fall through spring). All vocalists and instrumentalists are welcome, and there is no audition necessary for vocalists. Children’s Choir meets on Tuesday afternoons from 3:15 - 4:00 pm in church. Children from St. Walter School and School of Religion (3rd grade through 8th grade) are welcome. We sing throughout the school year at the 5:00 p.m. mass on Saturdays (every other week). Teen Choir is another way for students in grades 9-12 to be active in the parish. We sing at 5:00 pm mass on Saturdays (every other week) and rehearse at 4:00 pm prior to mass. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome. Cantors are a special ministry called upon to lead our assembly in prayer through singing the psalms and special verses in our music. Cantors are used with all ensembles and choirs. Anyone with a solid prayer life and vocal capacity is welcome to audition to be a part of our cantor training workshop. (Time and commitment is flexible) Instrumentalists: Organists, pianists, guitarists, flautists, bass guitar, double bass, oboe players, percussionists, trumpets, cellists, all add to our music ministry program. If you can play any of these or other instruments, please think about sharing your talent with St. Walter. Launder the linens and vestments and clean the sacred vessels. Design and make altar cloths. Generally make sure that the sacristy is neat and orderly.
Greet and seat parishioners, care for special needs, take up collection, assist with communion traffic flow, control environment and distribute bulletins after Mass. Generally these ministers tend to those tasks that bring good order to the liturgy. Any parishioner is invited to join this ministry: men, women and teens are all welcome ! Help out on a weekly basis at the mass of your choice or if you prefer assist on a part-time basis. Extra help is always needed for the holiday masses.
Ministers of the Word are the storytellers of the community. After prayerful preparation they proclaim the Word of God with faith-filled expression and good public speaking skills at all Sunday and Special liturgies. Initial and ongoing training is provided. Through prayer and worship this commission attempts to harmonize the faith life of our parish. The commission consists of parish members at large, various ministry representatives, a liaison to the Parish Council, a clergy representative, the Liturgy Coordinator, and Music Director. Together this group oversees worship in the parish through ongoing evaluation of present practices and the implementation of improvements. Tasks include such things as goal setting, seasonal planning direction, training of liturgical ministers, as well as collaborative efforts with other commissions and parish groups. The term is for two years and is renewable. The commission meets regularly on the first Tuesday of each month.
