PARISH POLICY FOR FLOWERS AND DECORATIONS

YOU MUST PASS THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO YOUR FLORIST
Flowers should be delivered 1 hour before wedding. Doors are locked otherwise

FLOWERS

The church is usually decorated according to the liturgical season of the year.  These decorations, as well as all flirniture in the sanctuary, remain intact during and after a wedding.

Cut floral arrangements and plants are all acceptable for use at a wedding. Sharing flowers with other weddings on the same day is also acceptable. Nothing may be placed on the altar or arranged in a manner that inhibits movement.

CANDLES

Fire codes do not permit any use of candles down the aisles of the church. Likewise the candles used in the altar area will be only those provided by the church.

PEW DECORATIONS

NO TAPE of any kind is allowed to affix either bows or flowers to the pews. If bows are used the florist is to either use a rubber band or ribbon to hold the bows in place. See the wedding coordinator.

AISLE RUNNERS

The runner is not to be taped in any way to the floor.

The processional aisle is sixty feet long. If an aisle runner is used, the wedding coordinator will direct its placement. If one is unavailable, please leave the runner and the coordinator to place it.

RICE, BIRD SEED, CONFETTI, FLOWER PETALS AND BALLOONS

Absolutely no rice, bird seed, confetti or flower petals are permitted inside or outside of the church since these items create safety, maintenance and insurance problems for the parish. Because of our concem for the environment, the release of helium balloons is not allowed.

Flower girls are not permitted to throw petals down the main aisle of church.

Please inform your friends and family members of this policy. If you decide to use any of these items, we suggest that you do so either at your home or at the place of your reception.

UNITY CANDLE

It is an option during the wedding for the couple to light a candle to signify their unity. St. Walter provides these candles for couples who choose to do this. If you wish to provide your own candle, please advise your Parish Coordinator when she calls you approximately one month before your wedding date.
